TOURNAMENT FORMAT

Rules

  1. All games are 4 × 7 minutes running time.
  2. No time-outs in group-stage and progression games. Two time-outs are allowed for quarter-finals, semi-finals, the final and bronze-medal game.
  3. Breaks are 1 minute after the first and third quarters, with 2 minutes at half-time.
  4. Points: 3 for a win, 0 for a loss, 2 for a penalty-shootout win after a draw and 1 for a penalty-shootout loss.
  5. Tied playoff or group-stage games use a 3-shooter penalty shootout. Tied quarter-final, semi-final, final and bronze-medal games use 5 shooters.
  6. Teams may use 14 players with either one or two goalkeepers.
  7. All other World Aquatics rules apply.
